TriStar Funds Further Development of VenX’s Revolutionary Handheld Device to Treat Spider Veins
VenX, LLC, a medical device company dedicated to revolutionizing the treatment of spider and reticular veins, is pleased to announce that it has closed its first institutional round of financing with an investment from TriStar Technology Fund, LLC.
VenX uses a new technology termed “nanophlebectomy” in which a handheld disposable device treats and eliminates spider and reticular veins in a transdermal fashion similar to phlebectomy, which is a technique commonly utilized for larger diameter, visibly raised varicose veins. Smaller diameter veins, however, are generally too small to be easily treated by this technique. Sclerotherapy is currently the most commonly used spider vein treatment available, but it can result in side effects such as staining, matting and potential for ulceration, along with other systemic complications. The VenX device will have the same speed, ease and minimal recovery time of sclerotherapy at a comparable price without the unwanted side effects.
The current round of financing will be used to complete the FDA clearance process, run clinical trials and launch the nanophlebectomy device. “We are very pleased to have TriStar lead our Series A round. Their experienced team will be invaluable as we move VenX forward,” said Navroze Mehta, President and CEO of VenX.
TriStar was one of the recipients of funding from the Tennessee Small Business Company Investment Credit Act (TNInvestco). TNInvestco is a state program put in place to develop Tennessee’s entrepreneurial infrastructure, bring additional capital into the state, diversify the state’s economy and create “anchors” or “clusters” of business innovation. The result is new companies being created or spun off and new talent being attracted to Tennessee, as is the case with VenX, whose parent company, MDI Partners, is located in Boca Raton, Florida.
TriStar Partner Brian Laden will serve as a member of the VenX Board of Directors. “VenX has a very strong team in place, and we are confident that together we will be able to successfully bring this new technology to the marketplace,” said Laden. “This is also another positive step towards growing Tennessee’s footprint in the medical device space.”
About VenX
Frustrated with the technical and regulatory limitations of sclerotherapy and lack of consistent efficacy of surface laser for the treatment of spider and reticular veins, the founders of VenX set out to develop novel systems to treat spider veins. Dr. Edward Boyle and Dr. Andrew Jones, experienced vein doctors at Inovia Vein Specialty Center in Bend, Oregon, invented prototype devices used for spider vein therapy. In a process termed “nanophlebectomy,” this revolutionary hand held, disposable device was developed to treat and eliminate spider and reticular veins in a transdermal fashion. About MDI Partners
MDI Partners specializes in early stage medical device development. The company was founded as a result of the mutual recognition by four experienced medical device leaders that there is an unmet need for financial support and management expertise in the development of promising medical device technologies for smaller markets that are below the threshold of interest for traditional venture capital. In general, these products are innovative medical devices with strong patents, a fairly straightforward design, development and regulatory pathway, and multiple potential acquiring companies with an interest in the specific area of technology. The entire MDI Partners team is actively involved in every project, each bringing their expertise to ensure success. For more information, visit www.mdipartners.com.
